Turn A, and the end of all things !
Earlier today I finished seeing Turn A Gundam , an amazing Japanese animated series. Like all great series and books, whenever I finish them I feel sad, it’s like part of me ended there, it’s somewhat depressing. Funny thing is, that when I am seeing/reading them, and I’m really enjoying the story and characters, I can’t stop myself from seeing one more episode, reading one more chapter, it’s a point where I want to see where the story goes, what will become of the characters. But then it ends, and even if it was a good ending I am always left wanting more, I don’t want to part with those characters that I grew to love, I want to see more of their lives, get to known them better…
Turn A, like all Gundam series, focuses it’s story on the effects war have on people and society, but does so with a very different take from all other series. Setting the world thousands of years after the first Gundam series, a cataclysmic event regressed humanity to technological levels of the early 20th century, except the moon faction that managed to keep a high level of technology. This unique setting is one of the most interesting aspects of Turn A, but it’s overshadowed by the superbly developed characters. The story is definitely good, but truly, what shines the most are the many interesting characters, and how the events in the series build them.
With a strong character cast, an unique setting, and good story, Turn A Gundam doesn’t need this day and age animation levels to make it one of the best series I have ever seen, if not the best. It is truly one of those that I won’t ever forget, and probably one of the few that I will probably view again one day, but for now I won’t be able to stop this feeling of loss, and will have to learn to live without seeing more of what will become of Rolan, Diana, Sochie and all the others…
